Deadlines…

So, I’ve been working on a project that entails several components…and the process has been a bit slow at times and brilliantly filled with energy at others. (Such is the creative process, eh?)

Well, I’m on the last leg of this…and the most-involved…and could use a little positive energy to send me whirling through this last step before I say goodbye to this part of my journey. 🙂

While I’m here, though, let me share a few points I’ve learned through the process:

1. Feedback is not only appropriate, it is beyond necessary and extremely important.

2. Friendship and family support are invaluable.

3. Inquire. Ask questions. Ponder. Think. Ask again. Find the clarity you seek. Then, move forward with your goals.

4. We each have individual roads to walk. Don’t judge others on their paths and don’t seek their approval for your journey. It’s yours. Own it.

5. Feed your body (with good food, fresh air, and exercise) and your spirit (though connection, meditation, prayer, and study).

6. Let go of your past. Conquer your fear. Live in the moment.

7. You can do this.

8. Be happy. 🙂

9. Enlist the help of others. They have skills. So do you. Share the love.

10. Keep a positive energy flow. When you start to feel down, pull yourself back up to a place of positivity. Post affirmations; create a mantra–whatever works.

Well, I’m gonna get back to work. I have a deadline, you know?

Hit the Pavement!

So…last week I took a break from the wide world of exercise.  Prior to that week, I was getting in about 3 workouts/week (to help maintain muscle tone, lower stress levels, and keep up with the massive amounts of carbs I’ve been eating…and to claim all the happy heart benefits of exercising….).  Anyway, by Saturday, my stress level was…shall we say HIGH…and I was missing the fresh air and pavement under my feet.  So, I decided that I was–come what may–going to run.

I found my workout gear, running jacket, iPod headphones, and shoes.  I laced up both shoes, then sat for a moment to add some recently acquired music to my “a good run” playlist.  As I did, I felt something poking the inside of my right ankle.  I unlaced my shoes (have I mentioned that I abhor tying shoes and avoid this action whenever possible?) to investigate.  I pushed around my sock and flicked at the spot in my shoe until I was satisfied that the sharp object digging into my skin had exited.

I started a load of (long overdue) laundry.

I stretched.

I added a few more songs.

I took a sip of water.

Then, I popped the ear buds into my ears and searched for a song that would pump up my energy level and inspire me to keep moving muscles in a way I hadn’t done for…well, let’s just say it’s been awhile…. 🙂

Rob Bass started chanting in my ear (thank heavens my dear friend edited the song for me so I could listen to it in peace), and my feet were keeping up with the rhythm, pounding with the force of weekly frustrations and newfound strength.  I didn’t even care about keeping pace or running far; I just needed the boost of pavement beneath my feet and the spirit of the earth flowing around me.  I felt renewed, refreshed, and amazing.  The wind hit my face like a wall, but I kept moving.  A few more songs, and I was back home to lift, do push ups and abs.

The next morning, I got out of bed with shin splints.  Oops!  I guess I forgot to stretch those muscles!  Still, with every step I took, I was reminded of the rush of energy of my run and of the work I am doing to live healthy and to be strong.  The shin splints were practically a gift…and I was grateful for them.  🙂

What do you do to combat stress and to increase your personal health and strength?

P.S.  Did you know that Brooks (awesome running shoes) has a Wear Tester Program for their products?  You can fill out a profile, and you become eligible to try out their new gear for FREE…pretty sweet, eh?  🙂

Relief and Writing

As many of you may well know, I completed my goal to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days for NaNoWriMo last November.  And, up until this week, I had edited about 20 pages of my (so far) 198 page manuscript.  I have been devoting more time to working on it as of late…and I am continually reminded of what I learned last November 30.

I DON’T KNOW HOW TO END A NOVEL.

Thank goodness I have plenty of editing to do before I get to revisit that ending endeavor I performed toward the end of last year.  As NaNoWriMo is a purely creative effort, I have found that minor characters have different names throughout the text as I reread it, and I’ve found some continuity issues with which I am dealing…and some character development…and so on…and so forth.  🙂  But, as I work on it, I am reminded of the energy I feel when I am writing as well as the happiness I feel when I am typing away at my screen, figuratively painting words onto a page…sillouhettes of lives and stories.

Also, I would like to say HUZZAH as I think I have made it through the enormous stress bubbles which have been clouding my vision and invading my ability to see clearly (and I am BEYOND THANKFUL).  I want to give each of you a shout-out for all your support and help through these past couple months (which have been anything but easy for me).  After some events and visitors this past weekend, I came home from errands Monday morning, cuddled with my preschooler on the couch, and we slept for a glorious two hours.  Upon waking, my head was clear, my vision was focused, and my energy was tangible.  As I have continued through this week, I am still feeling happy (mostly) and satisfied.  My perspective has enlarged, and I am moving forward (after a quite stagnant several weeks).  I am feeling relief!  And I am writing!  And…guess what?  I am oh-so-happy!!!!

Happily Feeling All Things Friday

And by Friday, I do not mean that ridiculous Rebecca Black song that got like 40 gazillion YouTube hits (okay, I’m exaggerating)…I’m talking about the Friday that begins the weekend!!!!  With the advent of this day, I just wake up happy knowing that tomorrow is mine to build or make or create or sleep or clean or stay in bed or nap or take a day trip adventure with the kiddos and Superman (did I mention that my husband used to be mistaken for Clark Kent?).  Well, on this lovely Friday, I have already gotten several kiddos off to school, eaten breakfast, exercised, showered, and drawn numerous pictures of Batman, the bat light (whatever it’s called…that light with the bat symbol that is used to notify Batman of his need to come to the rescue), and the Batmobile (which is sometimes called the “Bat car” by my little guy, since when he says “Batmobile,” it sounds like something totally different…more like “BatmanBill” and I don’t know how to draw that…whatever it is). 🙂  This is the version of the Batmobile we drew today:

From where does all this newfound energy come? (Oh, I forgot to add that I’m in the middle of painting my toes and have also decided on my ensemble for tonight’s hot date with Mr. Right. If you read yesterday’s post, I think we’ve broken down the wall and mended the rift…& we are going to dinner tonight to enjoy some local food flavors and adult conversation.)  I have no idea…but today is FRIDAY, and I am filled with hope for the weekend, connection with family and friends, and feeling oh-so-happy!  🙂

How are you?
