Here We Go Again

Just typing the title led to a song (have I mentioned that we speak in song around here?), which led to a Google search for a song by the same name, then on to Spotify (do you know how many songs have the title “Here We Go Again” on Spotify?…I don’t either, but the list is long), then back to Google because I could remember a decade. After eight minutes of searching, I found this gem of 90’s video-music-history:

You can thank me later. 🙂

As I have thought about catching up with the blog various times this summer, I chose instead to be engaged in life, in music, in moments. (In fact, the only real writing I’ve been doing for the past several months has been in my journal or on Facebook posts, and even those have been sparse.) I have been singing, though, so I’m going to give you my summer in a few minutes, filled with the songs that have reverberated in my vocal cords while sun has been shining on my face and life has been beautiful and challenging.

Sending all my love into the universe and praying some of it touches your heart and allows you ears to hear and a voice to sing. xoxo

Thankful for Marriage

I am thankful–with a week left until THANKSGIVING–for my dear husband. He’s still gorgeous, strong, thoughtful, tender, and loving after putting up with me for over a decade and a half…and that’s no small feat. HE IS AMAZING!!!!

Here are today’s songs:

Meiko – Stuck On You

One Direction – Kiss You

A Study of Sleep in Song

I’ve been thinking about sleeping and waking lately. I’m not sure the reason, except maybe with the changes in season and Daylight Savings Time approaching…and maybe the fact that I adjusted my alarm to wake me up one hour earlier this week (which has been interesting). It’s been fun to press snooze a little longer…and on days that I don’t find the button soon enough, to get up a little earlier and have a few more quiet moments in my morning than I have had for quite some time. 🙂

I find a bit of humor in our patterns of life and wanting to sleep, or wanting others to sleep (parenting, anyone?)–and particularly the badges of amazingness we give each other for staying up all night (teenagers? college students?). I don’t have any solid hypotheses as of yet…but on tired, yawning days, I wish I’d taken sleep a little more seriously when I had prior opportunities to partake of its goodness.

Anyway, here are some studies for your weekend regarding sleep & waking set to music (with apologies for a little weirdness in some of the videos–hopefully you get the point):

“Lullaby” – Brahms (which I can actually sing in the original German thanks to an amazing voice teacher in college)

“Little Man, You’re Crying” – Sigler, Wayne & Hoffman

“Hush-a-Bye” – Bing Crosby

“Don’t Wake Me Up” – Chris Brown

“Losing Sleep” – Parachute

“Counting Stars” – One Republic

“Wide Awake” – Katy Perry

“Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” – Wham!

“Up All Night” – 1D

What are your favorite sleeping and waking songs?

Happy Friday! 🙂

You Are BEAUTIFUL!

So, I have a friend (actually, I like to think that I have a few), and I have sisters…and daughters…and many of them feel (as I do) that we are anything but beautiful on any given day.  We get overwhelmed with feelings of inadequacy about our accomplishments, our figures, our blemishes (that oft-times only we see), our shortcomings…the list could go on and on and on…but what I want to say (and literally yell from my little window in cyberspace) is that

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!

(And, guys, you are not off the hook.  If you have women in your life–you know, mothers, sisters, friends, wives, daughters–they need to hear that from you.  Your words have POWER.  Please tell someone they are beautiful today!)

So, back to my friend (who is completely beautiful and wise and amazing and fantastic and talented and gorgeous inside and out)…she and I try to build each other, and I’m so grateful that she will send a text or email at just the right moment to help me feel like the beautiful person that I am (yet rarely acknowledge).

So–here are my “I Feel Pretty” songs for your enjoyment (and some are on the Spotify playlist on the sidebar, too, if you’d rather listen than watch):

I got this one from my sister when I was having a terrible time recently…and it’s still my go-to happy/pretty song:

Keri Hilson – Pretty Girl Rock

And, of course, I love this one:

Bruno Mars – Just the Way You Are

This list wouldn’t be complete without a little 1D:

One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful

And for just a little overall empowerment/you are amazingly powerful songs, I love:

Defying Gravity (from Wicked) (this performance is from the Tony Awards)

And the lovely Natasha Bedingfield has two I adore:

Unwritten

&

Strip Me

I hope you feel a little bit more of who you are today–amazing, beloved, dear, wonderful, powerful…& BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

🙂
