No, not the Disney movie that has taught more than one of my friends’ children the way to “moon” other children…but, I digress.

I’m talking about real, true, honest bravery. I remember attending a seminar once where a singer (Janna…? I wish I could remember…) took the stage with her guitar in hand and strummed a few chords as she invited us to sing along, “What would I do today if I were brave?” In addition to the power of the music, she added movement as we each signed (American Sign Language) the word “brave” as we sang. Though this experience happened years ago, the feelings are still vivid in my mind. I contemplated that question again recently, as I have many times at various moments in my life.

I would write more.
I would be less inhibited.
I would stop worrying about what others thought about me.

I still struggle with being brave, but I noticed that Sara Bareilles has released a new single entitled, “Brave.” I asked someone close to me who is usually more up on current music than I am if they were familiar with the song…and they mentioned a song by Josh Groban with the same title. (Thankfully, I found both through Spotify…and you can look for them toward the end of my Spotify playlist in the sidebar if you care to take a listen…and I’m posting Sara’s lyric video below for your viewing pleasure.)

Still, I’m wondering what I can do to develop the bravery…the courage…the lack of inhibition…or fear…that I need to do the work that I would like to do in this life. Any ideas?

I think I’m getting closer as I feel like I’m on the cusp of something amazing!!!! Join me, will ya?

And, speaking of being brave…I’m about to hit “publish” on this post…which makes #100.  How’s that for being a little brave?  100 windows into my life, love, liberty, and my personal pursuit of finding happiness…in the middle of my story.

A few thoughts….

Monday’s post brought out a little bit of impromptu fiction…and I feared to post it for sounding sacriligious…or something.  Not sure what my hesitation was.

Still–it’s TUESDAY–and I’ve been thinking about songs, and words, and lines….(and, before I forget, the new iTunes now lets you copy links to songs…and here is the free one this week: …which I actually really like).

Since December began, I could probably sum up most of my month’s activities in two words–baking and cleaning.  Baking because, well, it’s Christmas!!!! And I did little baking during November (mainly because I was writing a NOVEL for NaNoWriMo)…and, as a good friend once said accurately, baking is my therapy.  And cleaning because, well, my house really needed a good scrubbing (did you notice the mopping story yesterday?–well, that’s because cleaning has been on the brain and in my bones for the last several days) since I spent several hours of last month taking care of sick people and WRITING!!!!! Huzzah!!!! 🙂

So, when I clean, (and sometimes when I bake, too), I often turn on iTunes, or Spotify, or Pandora to enjoy some flavorful music (the real truth is so I can dance) and give me some motivation to keep moving.  On my cleaning spree last week, I recalled some of my favorite one-liners from songs that I love.  Here are a few I jotted down for fun:

“Who knows how long I’ve loved you?”

“I felt so symbolic yesterday.”

“Letters that you never meant to send get lost and thrown away.”

“Worlds without end couldn’t hold her.”

Are any of those familiar to you?  Care to guess?  I’ll post the answers in a few days. 🙂

And, who has been following the free music on iTunes?  You can get free Christmas songs–a new one each Tuesday–if you care to head on over there (see the link above for the new one for this week)…or you could just enjoy Spotify‘s library and make your own Christmas music playlist…or you can add a holiday station on Pandora…or you could be like me and do all three.  Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it, too?!?!?!?! Certainly not my preschooler…he’s been asking for cake again…and we all know what that means, right?  More baking.  More baking=more cleaning.  More cleaning=more music.  December is looking promising already!

New Music…Wednesday?

Well, I shared my Sunday night dream in yesterday’s post, so I’m busting into Wednesday with a new music post for the week….

The song this week on iTunes for FREE is called “San Francisco” by a band called The Mowgli’s. It sounds a little (heavier) 60’s with lots of guitar. Haven’t downloaded it yet, but if your from Sanfran, you might like it enough to go with it. Just my take….

And while we are talking about popular music…PSY (pronounced “sigh”) is rocking almost all the US charts with “Gangnam Style.” Little ones and seniors alike are flooding dance floors to pony dance, and teenagers are dressing up like PSY for Halloween.

If you haven’t heard it, you can SPOTIFY or search it on YouTube…and since it’s Halloween, a little mash-up action in with “Ghostbusters & Gangnam Style” shared with me by a dear friend (thanks, Jessica!) just might be in order….

(I happen to prefer listening over watching, as I find the video a little on the offensive side…just FYI.)

Tuesday, Again?

File:Musical notes.svg

Since I have recently been exploring (& frankly fairly enamoured of) Spotify–I totally spaced the Single of the Week on iTunes (& I am all over free music…thus my current infatuation with Spotify)–even though I’ve been up for about eight hours of my day already!

So, here’s the scoop–the free song this week is from Bridgit Mendler (think Lemonade Mouth soundtrack, if you saw that). The song is okay…kinda pop/rap/hip hop? (Again, it’s FREE…so download or not, but please don’t complain.) I did download it because the sound clip sounded clean enough for my tweenagers, and, if I ever get to hit the pavement again running (which I would have been out this morning until I heard the weather), it’s peppy enough to add to that playlist.

And while we are talking about music again, any of you out there who are more experienced with Spotify, please let me know if/how I can play my playlist (not the radio setting) on my mobile!!!!! I do have internet access always on my phone, but the app just goes to radio when I hit a song on the playlist. WHY??????? I have no idea. I’m not as impressed with the app as I am with the desktop program and the lovely playlist on my sidebar (which, by the way, makes me happier than I can say). 🙂

Happy Tuesday!

To Spotify…or Not to Spotify?

That is the question. 🙂

Well, this morning, after various posts by friends (and honestly, today I’ve needed a little bit more happiness to get me out of the present funk I’m in), I decided to spend some time trying to make sense of Spotify.  And, guess what?!?!?!?  I think I’m getting it…!

Plus, you can somehow plug in music to your blog, which brings me to my current blog experiment (which is, namely, trying to paste a song into my blog)…let’s see if this works:

Well, that was a little less exciting than I thought.  Maybe I’ll enjoy listening to it anyway.

Happy Friday!

(P.S.–I’ve started a short story fiction piece to post later next week…stay tuned!)

***UPDATE LATER***I figured out how to add a playlist (or you could add just a song) from Spotify to my blog on the sidebar. (See it?) If you are a WP blogger, the info is in the comments. :)***
